SUMMARY
Under general supervision from the Solid Waste Service Coordinator, this position maintains service charges and records of residential and commercial customers. Duties include compiling customer information and route sheets, handling customer complaints, follow-up inspections and questions, assisting in the enforcement of the City's solid waste regulations, and overseeing the commercial front loader, side loader operators, and routes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs general supervisory tasks of assigned personnel and collection routes, including schedules, assignments, and solid waste collection activities.
- Assists the Solid Waste Commercial Service Coordinator in computer operations, including adding, deleting, prorating, and calculating solid waste account charges of commercial customers.
- Assists the Solid Waste Commercial Coordinator with setting, removing, and relocating commercial containers.
- Assists contractors and new businesses with determining appropriate container services, enclosure dimensions, and locations needed. (removed "Remove")
- Continuously checks on the operations of crews.
- Compiles daily reports, takes attendance, reports absences, and completes forms used in the collection of solid waste and refuse.
- Maintains route sheets for addresses and pickup schedules for solid waste containers.
- Prepares reports, memos, and letters of correspondence concerning solid waste service.
- Maintains good contact with the Solid Waste Commercial Service Coordinator and department heads and provides feedback on operations.
- Oversees the operation of crews.
- Checks on the cleanliness of assigned equipment, alleys, and commercial trash collection areas.
- Observes commercial route equipment and containers for proper operation, cleanliness, service maintenance, and repair needs.
- Investigates complaints received from the public and departmental employees.
- Instructs crews on complaints received, follows up as needed, and observes disposal practices of customers, noting any violations.
- Encourages compliance with solid waste regulations and files formal complaints if necessary.
- Investigates and documents accidents and property damage.
- Assists the Solid Waste Commercial Coordinator with conducting and documenting safety instruction meetings with personnel.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of two years of personnel supervision and/or computer operation/data entry, bookkeeping, or accounting experience. Must possess a valid Texas minimum Class B commercial driver's license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a waste screening class and applicable Solid Waste License within the guidelines of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have a good working knowledge of light, medium, and medium-large solid waste collection equipment, and trucks.
- Must possess computer skills necessary to compose reports and correspondence.
- Knowledge of basic telephone etiquette.
- Ability to schedule, assign, and oversee equipment operators.
- Must be able to integrate with other levels of personnel.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate with coworkers.
- Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to learn new software and improve processes with existing software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate computers and other basic office equipment.
