The Activity Coordinator assists in providing structured activities under the supervision of the CTRS to further patient/family/group progress in treatment according to Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, the Oceans' Mission, Performance Improvement standards.

Essential Functions:

  1. Under the supervision of the CTRS, assists in providing therapeutic recreational activities in accordance with accepted standards of therapeutic recreation practice in a timely fashion as outlined by Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, and the Hospital's Mission statement and CQI monitors.
  2. Assists in planning and conducting individual and group activities as assigned by CTRS.
  3. Participates as an active member of the treatment team, attending meetings when necessary and reporting on assigned patients.
  4. Documents in a timely manner in the medical record.
  5. Communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive related manner to patients and their families.
  6. Assists in identifying safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs under the direction of the CTRS.
  7. Under the direction of the CTRS, assists in conducting discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs, and involving members of the patient's support system in decision making as appropriate.
  8. Responds to inquiry calls and assists in preforming chart audits.
  9. Assists in planning and conducting individual and group therapy assigned by CTRS, Administrator, or physician's orders.
  10. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.


Requirements

Experience / Education:High school graduate or equivalent preferred.At least 1 year experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting preferred.Certificate of completion from an accredited Activities Training Program preferred.

Qualifications / Skills:Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age related disability and the needs of the patients served on assignment. Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate care, including age related care/disability/cultural sensitivity related care to adolescent, chronically mentally ill, adult, geriatric, chemically dependent, and dually diagnosed patient populations.Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of mental illness and chemical dependency and the family dynamics, which accompany them.Must have basic knowledge of chronic mental illness.Must have in-depth knowledge of clinical therapy modalities.Must have excellent communication and group/process skills as related to age specific patient needs.Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.Must be able to work under close supervision.Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral de-escalation program.

Work Environment:Subject to many interruptions. This position can be high paced and stressful including pressure due to multiple calls and inquires; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere.This person might sometimes experience disagreeable odors, sights and/or unpredictable patient behavior.Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
