SUMMARY
Under supervision, this position performs skilled and semi-skilled task in the maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment used in a water treatment plant.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the mechanics in the performance of their duties including preventative maintenance and yearly inspections.
- Performs summer/winter grounds maintenance, including the operation/servicing of equipment used and operation/maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Performs wash-down of contactor basins, sedimentation basins, all flumes and wet wells in the treatment facility.
- Prepares and submits daily necessary paper work and accurately logs hours on job reports, and work orders.
- Performs morning unlock/preparation and evening lockup of the building/work area.
- Performs housekeeping duties as assigned.
- Paints buildings and equipment as assigned.
- Works overtime and responds to callbacks as required by workload or emergencies.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred. Valid Texas Driver's License required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Ability to work outside in all types of weather, especially summertime where he/she will come into contact with insects and occasionally snakes.
- Ability to read and write English and communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in undesirable conditions and inclement weather.
- Ability to use and/or operate, and/or learn to use and operate basic hand and power tools, , all types of grounds care equipment, sandblasting and painting equipment and supplies, ropes, chains, slings and other rigging equipment, pickups and trailers, special tools used in the water industry, various types of safety equipment as required, a tractor with implements and forklifts.
- Ability to operate equipment that vibrates such as riding lawn mowers and string trimmers.
- Ability to occasionally work in areas that require safety rigging and/or a good sense of balance.
- Ability to work near and occasionally with potentially hazardous chemicals and often work near hazardous sources of energy; electrical, pneumatic and hydraulics.
- Ability to use a fire hose for extended periods for wash-down procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENTThe employee works in a dynamic indoor and outdoor environment that requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. This position will be required to work in environments where insects, snakes or other type of animals could pose a risks. This position is considered weather essential.
