Wastewater Treatment Plant Laborer
Under supervision, this position performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor in the construction and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. This position will be required to work during inclement weather as well as overtime as necessary by the department. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist mechanics with various maintenance, repair and construction work.
- Assist in servicing pumps and motors.
- Clears and cleans lines and tanks by rodding or flushing.
- Performs building maintenance including painting, sweeping, mopping, general cleaning and minor repairs.
- Performs grounds maintenance including mowing, pruning, trimming, weed eating, and weed spraying, seeding, watering, and other landscape related projects.
- Assists in loading and unloading potentially hazardous chlorine and sulfur dioxide gasses according to standard safety procedures.
- Assist equipment operator in repairs and moving equipment.
- Drives vehicles and trucks up to 2.5 tons, uses other light tractors and riding mowers.
- Checks oil, fuel, water and lubricates vehicles and equipment.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to completion of the 9th grade is required. Experience as a laborer preferred. Valid Texas Driver's License required. Must possess a Texas Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work in undesirable conditions and inclement weather.
- Ability to use and/or operate, and/or learn to use and operate small hand tools, drill press, mowers, trimmers, weedeaters, front-end loader and personal protective equipment.
